All You Wondered About
How does tooth decay occur?
There are always microorganisms in the mouth. These are natural flora and they protect us from diseases. They are very diverse and exist in our mouths in balance. However, when we consume a lot of sugar-containing foods, the number of microorganisms that create acid by using sugar increases. The acid formed by these sugar-consuming bacteria disrupts the mineral structure of our teeth and tooth decay occurs. With the developing technology, our eating habits have also changed a lot. Unfortunately, we eat more, more sugar, and more acid. In the midst of our daily hustle and bustle, we satisfy our hunger not with an apple or nuts, but with ready-made foods that are much easier to reach. We want a pizza and coke for our workplace or we find ourselves in a nearby doner shop during lunch break. We roll biscuits at tea time and we love chocolate. With this diet, we walk around with the plaque that accumulates on our teeth and the bacteria that produce acid by consuming that plaque. Even if we brush our teeth at night, it is not enough, even it happens during the day. Then, when we wake up at night with a toothache and go to our dentist, we say, but I am brushing my teeth, and we are surprised by this situation.
So what should we do to prevent our teeth from decaying?
- Let's eat healthy food as much as possible.
- Let's avoid snacks or consume healthy snacks.
- Let's brush our teeth after lunch if possible.
- Who doesn't like chocolate with coffee, let's eat, but at least let's rinse our mouths.
- Let's do our brushing at the right time and in the right way.
- Let's go to our dentist at regular intervals so that a simple problem does not turn into a torture for us.
